Dear all,
Hope I created this in the correct category.
Wanna get some feedbacks from those of you who are experienced in wearing toddlers - up to what age do they start to refuse to be worn or stop asking for it? My girl is 20 months old now & I am wondering is it worthwhile to buy another carrier (actually need some "evidence" to convince DH, lol cos I am very keen!). So far she's still ok with my SNUGG meitai but with long straps & all, sometimes before I manage to tie, she'll speed off to somewhere already. I am considering whether I should get something with buckles (faster to put on) & that can "tahan" a heavier weight.
Appreciate for some suggestion on types that I can look into too (am mostly front carrying) & currently, my girl's weight is 10kg (SNUGG can "tahan" up to 13/15kg right - I forgot).
Thanks!
my son is 2 yrs + 2 months. havent carried him for long time (like almost more than 4 months maybe). he prefers to walk or run..
i guess it depends on the toddler as well. some just malas to walk.. wants to be carried.
in my case, he wants to walk with his big brother.
I start wearing my dotter less and less after she turns 2. I would only wear her now if shes really tired after a long trip, e.g. walk around the zoo, I'll wear her after she walks by herself >1/2hour. Or maybe if I'm in a rush and dun have the luxury to follow her pace.. ie.. walk walk walk.. ooo a bunny in the window.. then I'll carry her and dash off. I may also carry her on vacation, our tour kinda trip.
Another instance when carrier can be helpful is like when u wanna show her something high up, like fishes in aquarium, then I'll use pouch and carry her and she can watch the fishies as long as she likes.
So in short, normal/short outings I just bring with me a pouch, easy in and out. For longer trips, vacation and tours (long walks) I'd bring a mei tai/ssc and/or stroller. The general rule now (for my dotter) is that she no longer wants to be carried unless she's tired walking or she wants to see something she can't see from her level.
But sometimes I still carry her just to carry her and sometimes she doesn't mind at all.. sometimes she'll struggle lah
depends on the kid i think.
During the Parenthood Fair I actually babywore my friend's 3 year old kid for about an hour in the scootababy because he was upset and cranky.
Had to let him down after 1 hour because i was already tired from the fair, and out of shape, so he got too heavy :P
LO is 21 mths old. Honestly no strollers past 1 year, so it's MT/SSC. MT I gave up coz pretying takes time (when she was close to 1 year old)
SSC- I have AP and Beco Butterfly. If she wants to walk, and be carried for a short while, DH will dukung. Once she's tired/sleepy/busy place/uneven road- she willingly asks to be worn.
Eg: bird park ok- she runs around, deer park- lotsa gradients, scary deers -so Beco it is.
Both AP, Beco are ok for front and back carry. Only advantage of Beco Butterfly is that I can swing it from front to back vice versa on my own (LO is strapped in the butterfly bit). No recent pics of AP, it;s with Elly. Oh short trips, RS. I never got the love for pouches.
LOL I just realised to the Deer Park, I have the same outfit like my profile pic (that's in Damai bungalow last year). She was front carried in Beco.
Don't mind the mask, patrons in Giant didn't seem to observe the cough etiquette. Nowadays it's just to our local supermarket, Speedmart or Cold Storage- less crowd.
Thanks everyone for the feedbacks! Before I forget, Selamat Hari Raya & drive safely.
Ok back to my question....
I guess I can say my daughter is the "malas" to walk type. She'll geleng kepala every time when we ask her whether she wanna walk or not (from condo's car park to the lift, distance not far). She's still ok with the stroller too & so far, have never refused to be worn.
Actually I have a LP pouch but she's getting too heavy for me to put her in (I am very thin, 42kg only
). It's while putting her in that I struggle with, once she's in, I can still tahan with side carry for 1 hour max.
Since she's still ok with the stroller, I really am not sure whether to buy or not (cos it's not cheap). I worry after buying, a few months down the road she refused to be worned, hubby is sooooo going to kill me. DILEMMA!
janicelly, mebbe just convert yr Snuggs mei tai to buckle-tai? Liza can help u convert it. no need to spend too much so if yr daughter decides to start walking full time, it won't be too much money spent.
Hi janicelly,
If I remember correctly, your pouch is too big for you. With a 10kg, you definitely would want a pouch that is snug fitting. With a snug fitting pouch, I was able to comfortably wear my boy til he was about 11.5kg.
My boy kind of stopped asking to be carried since he turned 2... there are still ocassions when I'll wear him, though.. like for a trip or sometimes up the stairs (when he's feeling lazy). It has always been either the pouch or a wrap for me. If it's just 5 minutes to the car, the pouch... longer walks.. the wrap. Somehow, for me, SSCs just aren't working :(
Hi Happi,
You are the same Happi from MB forum right? If yes, it's nice to see you here!
Thanks for your good suggestion! I'll ask Liza about it.
Jess,
Ya but I had it altered as per your tips :D. I need to alter it again cos I lost weight, again :s
